Brief description- the hypodermic needle theory is the idea that the audience that a piece of media is aimed at, become naive and that the message portrayed to us is in turn the message that the author/creator wants us to think. This therefore, suggests that we are injected by a message that has been mediated to manipulate us to do things. The theory had contributions from Katz and lazarfield and was produced in the 1930's.Media use the message to try and make sales which will boost revenue.
It is argued that this theory is off no reverence in today's society as, we choose to follow and like something down to personal preference, groups in society, socialgraphics and physcographics.
